🌴 A little Jamaican gem I need to talk about more! 🇯🇲
I recently confirmed one of my favorite clients (who LOVES the island of Jamaica… as he should! ✌️🇯🇲) for a stay at Sunset at the Palms Resort in Negril. That booking reminded me just how much I love this little gem.
Sometimes, as a travel advisor, I get so busy talking about all the amazing places I visit that I forget to go back & share some of my favorites!

And those little treehouse-style accommodations tucked into the lush gardens? SO charming. 🌴

They said the internet would replace travel advisors.

It didn't.

Yet I still get the occasional:

"There are still travel agents?"

Yep. We're called Travel Advisors now. Apparently "travel agent" still makes people picture me sitting in a strip mall in 1997 surrounded by brochures & maps. 😂

What surprises me more? That people are still spending hours researching, comparing reviews, second-guessing themselves, opening 47 browser tabs, & stressing over vacation details on their own.

But hey... that's certainly one way to do it.

Now the hot topic is AI.

"AI is going to replace travel advisors."

Well, AI can tell you what a resort's website says.
I can tell you what the resort is actually like.

I typically stay at or inspect 30+ resorts every year. I've walked the grounds, tasted the food, tried the drinks, met the staff, sat down with management teams, & experienced destinations firsthand. I've also spent years networking with advisors & tour operators from around the world, learning from their experiences & sharing my own.
….before anyone thinks I'm talking about the same few resorts over & over again... I'm not. This experience spans the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, and beyond.

AI can gather information. ✅
It can't gather experiences. 🚫

And it definitely can't know my clients. ✌️

It doesn't know who just survived the busiest year of their life & desperately needs a week to recharge. It doesn't know who is celebrating 25 years of marriage, planning a surprise proposal, traveling with aging parents, or taking the first family vacation they've been able to afford in years.

Some of my clients have trusted me for more than 20 years. Today, I'm helping plan the honeymoons & destination weddings of their children. (Crazy right)!?

AI doesn't have relationships. It doesn't have intuition. It doesn't have firsthand experience.

And when your flight gets canceled, your resort has an issue, or something goes sideways while you're thousands of miles from home, AI isn't sitting on hold or emailing “people” fighting for a solution while you're enjoying your vacation.

Will AI be a useful tool?
Absolutely. 👍

Will it replace travel advisors?

I'm about as worried about that as I was when people told me the internet would. 😉

Because travel isn't just about booking a trip.
It's about understanding the people taking it.❤️

And no algorithm is replacing that anytime soon.

EM VACA is heading to Aruba in just a few days to experience this brand-newISH resort.

Here’s what I do know:

🏨 One of the newest properties in this area

But here’s what I don’t know… yet:
What’s the vibe like?
How’s the layout?
Is the food worth it?
And most importantly - how’s the service?

Meet Chris. 👤
Chris loves a good deal.
Chris spent hours searching online & finally found a vacation package that looked perfect!
(cheaper than the quote I provided..)
Chris booked what he found, because it was $98.00 less. 🤦🏻‍♀️
What Chris didn’t realize…
The flights had tight connections, & no advance seat assignments. No transfers were included.
The “ocean view” room was actually a partial view… (side of the building kind of view).
The resort fees & taxes weren’t included.
And when Chris received a schedule change on his flight?
Chris spent 2 hours on hold with a generic customer service line. 🫠
Meanwhile, my clients are advised of their schedule change after I have already taken care of it.
By the time Chris added baggage, paid for better seats, upgraded the room…& paid additional for roundtrip transfers …
Chris spent more than my original quote.😬
But more importantly?
Chris spent time, energy, & unnecessary stress on what should’ve been a relaxing getaway.
A good deal isn’t just about the lowest price, it’s about the best experience. ✈️🌴
Next time, Chris is booking with a travel advisor.
