October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. 💜
This morning I proudly pinned my purple ribbon onto my uniform.
It’s been 2 years since I publicly shared that I am 1 in 3 of the women who will experience domestic violence at some point in their life.
My message is still the same.
‼️📢 It can happen to anybody!!! 📢‼️
I thought I was immune. So did every other survivor I’ve had the honor of speaking with. We all thought we were smart enough to not allow anyone to abuse us. We all thought we’d see the signs and run. But as the best analogy goes, the frog in the pot jumped in when the water was warm and could not detect the boil til it was too late.
As the distance from the events I survived grows larger, the horror of what I was experiencing strikes me stronger.
I was starved and taunted. I was yanked about and treated like a toy. I was dressed up like a mannequin. I was given a script. I lived like a slave following master’s orders. I was friendless and hopeless. And the worst….I was seconds away from becoming another statistic………
BUT MY STORY DOESN’T END THERE!
My purpose on this earth is not complete! I have chosen to RISE and SHINE! Now that I’ve faced my worst fears and overcome them, I will not let anything hold me back! Life after abuse is not easy, for sure, but there was, and is still, NO going back!!!
💟 Dear reader, if you are afraid to change your life and escape your abuser, I GET IT! There’s nothing scarier. And yet when you reach that breaking point it doesn’t seem to matter any more….you are simply ready to take the leap and you go for it. I hope you get to that breaking point soon.
The beautiful truth is that we are SO much more capable than we think.
We only discover how strong we are when we are faced with the toughest, most painfully challenging obstacles.
I believe in you, but YOU must believe in you if you’re gonna overcome it!!! You’ve got this!!! Go get’um!!!
