We are so excited to welcome back Jules as a deckhand! Hiya, Jules here! Originally from the DC area, I consider many other places home. I grew up visiting my mother’s family in Finland every summer. In college I split my time between Scotland and the US to study English literature at the University of St Andrews and the College of William and Mary. Less than a week after graduating this spring, I headed to Maine, sight unseen!
I have spent my summer meticulously curating music playlists for maintenance days; every single one includes
“I’d Do Anything for Love “ by Meat Loaf at least once.
This off-season, I hope to return to bouldering and competitive pool playing. My mundane superpower would be striking gold at the thrift store and accurately predicting coin flips. I look forward to meeting you on board- you can find me wherever Fiji is :)

Join us for our first annual Science + Sailing with Naturalist and friend of the Grace Bailey, Dr. Phoebe Jekielek!

Phoebe has a diverse background spanning experiential education, science communication, and applied and collaborative research in a variety of our ocean ecosystems. Most recently, she received her PhD after spending years researching sea scallop populations and behaviors on the coast of Maine. She has been a longtime partner with the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership, located right in our cruising grounds in the Penobscot Bay. Most importantly, Phoebe knows how to approach marine life with a sense of awe and a fun-loving spirit. She is thrilled to be part of this trip and encourage marine life discovery, while sailing the Bay.

Guided by Phoebe, there will be opportunities to learn about the marine ecosystem around us through microscopes, plankton nets, species collection and identification and maybe even an ROV to explore whats happening under the hull of the Grace Bailey.

A wonderful accompaniment to any windjamming trip, this science program will be an opportunity for those to engage, however they would like, with the wonder of the ocean around us during this sail in the height of the summer! For more details check out the link in our bio!!
