It sounds FANTASTIC! These red label Nippon Gakki Yamaha's have a good amount of hype to them, but I can confirm that the praise is justified. They really are GREAT instruments.

Pulling these frets revealed some WIDE tang work from some previous refret...or, maybe this is vintage line work from the Yamaha factory line? If any of you other looths out there can confirm, it would be interesting to know either way. I suspect it's from a previous refret, but i'm not certain if these frets are original or not.

The board had a bit of a twist to it, so it took a bit of re-radiusing to get it in proper order again. It will be well worth the extra effort when this old beauty is back in playing shape.
After the radius work is complete, I like to give the fretboard a good drink (or two...or five) of fretboard oil. My favorite is from
After I think it's had it's fill, I'll wipe away any excess, and let it sit overnight. That fretboard is already looking like it has new life in it again!
