“We had an excellent time. It was fun and educational for all of us (Dad, 5 year old, and 13 year old). Learning about Rockport history and lobstering was really interesting. First mate John was fabulous.” - Justin T.

CREATURE OF THE WEEK: SEA BIRDS

Rockport's coastline is home to a plethora of sea birds, including loons, grebes, gulls, cormorants, and Harlequin ducks. Harlequin ducks are colorful, small sea ducks that go by many other names, including painted duck, totem pole duck, rock duck, glacier duck, mountain duck, white-eyed diver, squeaker, lords and ladies, and blue streak.

All hands on deck! 🦞

Tomorrow (September 20th) is the final day of our 2025 season! We can't wait to see you next year out on the First Lady.

The First Lady may have her origins just down the street in Essex, MA, but she's traveled pretty far and worn a lot of different hats since her construction in 1974!

You can spot hundreds of different buoys in the waters off of Rockport, but did you know some of them are marking the locations of up to ten lobster traps per buoy? 🦞

Lucinda D. left this review for us:

“Giving people the opportunity to go out on a lobster boat is a great idea. The boat is relatively small, so the cruise was relaxing, intimate (a maximum of 6 guests), and we really felt connected to the water. First Mate John was friendly, funny, and full of interesting tidbits about lobster fishing. After we "pulled some traps," Captain Jim took us further out so we could see the adorably curious (and prolific), gray seals that call Cape Ann home. A truly delightful trip. We highly recommend it.”

No creature is immortal, but lobsters are about as close as one can get. 🦞 They don't age the same way other creatures do. They can also detach their claws and legs when in danger, and the limb will slowly grow back over time, like it never even happened!

CREATURE OF THE WEEK: the sea raven! Did you know that sea ravens can fill their bellies with water when frightened, similar to a puffer fish? This makes it appear larger to scare away predators. This is why they are also called puff-bellies!
