Ranger: "Did you know that the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest traditional lighthouse in North America and the 2nd tallest brick lighthouse in the World?"

For , let’s talk about the Świnoujście Lighthouse in Poland.

Named after a local community on the island of Wolin, the Świnoujście Lighthouse follows a legacy of navigation lights dating back to the 12th century with the current lighthouse being built in 1857. At 212 feet or 68 meters tall, this lighthouse outstretches Cape Hatteras by 14 feet, but the views are just as spectacular. Visitors are able see 28 miles out into the Baltic Sea and Germany.

Join the Hatteras Island Rescue Squad every Monday at 9:30 AM for their Rip Currents and Beach Hazards education events all summer! This FREE, informative 30 minute class will be held every week at Station 35 - 48103 NC HWY 12 Buxton, and is for all ages - everyone is welcome!

Update from NCDOT NC 12

Our road crews inspected NC12 on Hatteras Island this morning, and while there are still several areas of deep sand and standing water, we are cautiously optimistic that there is no apparent damage to the pavement. We expect more overwash over the next few high tide cycles, but hopefully things will gradually improve as Florence weakens and moves away from the area. For now, NC12 remains CLOSED throughout Hatteras Island.
