Our travel club is reading this book by Eric Worre.
He talks about a national survey in 2000 where the average person had 9.5 close friends.
Today, that is 3.5, even though we are more connected than ever. So, a 60% decline in meaningful relationships in one generation.

In 2000, 3% of people had no close friends at all. Today that is closer to 12%. We have four times as many people going through life without a single close friend.

Those are some stats caused by many factors. We read everyday about community: new community, joining a community, happy to be in this new community, community of people.

A community is people linked by a shared culture, religion, or history.
Merriam-Webster

A community is also a group of people who live in the same place, share the same interests, or have similar backgrounds. It means sharing a sense of belonging, support, and responsibility toward one another.

People do not like to be lonely, they want to be loved and cared for. We can share resources and solve problems when we stick together.

If a community doesn’t want you, go find another one. It is their loss, not yours.

Did you know foreign fighter pilots are training right here in Arkansas? Jets from Finland and Poland are flying over Fort Smith right now.

Ebbing Air National Guard Base was picked in 2023 as the U.S. training hub for allied F-35 pilots. Finland's first F-35 landed in January. About 20 Finnish pilots will train at the base. Polish jets have been flying training missions since March.

Singapore's F-35s arrive later this year. Their F-16s follow in 2027. Pilots from Germany and Switzerland are coming too.

The Air Force just approved a major expansion. The base will grow to 36 F-35s. A $74 million training center is under construction. Lockheed Martin is adding 110 jobs to support the mission.
