Jarbidge Wilderness Guide and Packing

Jarbidge Wilderness Guide and Packing The Pruntys started outfitting fishermen and hunters in the 1940's. Come and experience the adventure of fly fishing, horseback riding, hiking, and much more.

With four generations of outfitting and guiding in the same area, we take much pride in the service we provide our guests and hunters. SUMMER WILDERNESS PACK TRIPS
Offering wilderness tours of its beautiful surroundings Jarbidge Wilderness Guide and Packing is sure to give you the journey of a lifetime. Vacation within 113,000 acres of designated wilderness. Experience the contradiction of green m

eadows and mountain streams in a state known for arid landscapes. As Nevada's first designated wilderness area, the Jarbidge encompasses some of Nevada's most stunning and varied topography, and endless high desert vistas. Visit us. Bring your family, your friends, and your sleeping bag. Take some time away from it all, and we'll transport you into the heart of the Jarbidge Wilderness for a memorable break from the sensory overload of the 21st century. We will pack you and your gear 7 miles into the Jarbidge Wilderness on horse back to our camp that sits on the East Fork of the Jarbidge River. Once packed in, you hold the reins . . . horseback rides, fly fishing, hiking, or just reading a book or relaxing in the shade. GUIDED HUNTING IN NEVADA'S AREA 7
With a lifetime of experience hunting in the Jarbidge Wilderness and the Bruneau River Complex, your experience with us will be a safe and successful hunting adventure. JARBIDGE WILDERNESS HUNT
The Jarbidge Wilderness (072) is very steep and rugged consisting of 9 peaks over 10,500 feet. We hunt from elevations of 6,000 to 9,500 feet, all on horseback. All camps in the wilderness are wall tents. The Jarbidge possesses a spectacular combination of heavily timbered areas, dense mahogany, big open sagebrush ridges, quaking aspen, 3,000 feet vertical canyons and 500 feet rock formations. Historically the Jarbidge has been a best kept secret for producing quality mule deer and elk. With its limited access and traffic the Jarbidge is not only a beautiful place to hunt, but an excellent place to hunt trophy animals undisturbed by others. BRUNEAU RIVER COMPLEX HUNT
The Bruneau River Complex (071) is not a wilderness hunt and is very accessible; however, the country is very steep and rugged. Our hunts in the Bruneau are conducted with trucks, quads, and horses (if needed) and are based out of our home at Murphy’s Hot Springs, where you will stay in one of our cabins.

Did you know…. We have a strict duffel only rule for all our backcountry adventures? We don’t pack traditional suitcases on the pack horses. So if you want your gear to make it to camp, you gotta bring a duffel bag.

That being said, we’re always on the lookout for the best duffel bags, and this summer Caitlin and Monica put the Valley Duffel to the test!

Bottom line: these bags are amazing and perfect for our summer wilderness adventures! And we’ve tried A LOT of duffels. Our favorite features:
They’re extremely durable, they’re easy to pack on a horse but still big enough to hold all our stuff for 5 days in the woods, and they have backpack straps and a dirty clothes pouch! If you’re in the market for a new duffel, or if you’re planning your summer adventure with us 😁, we highly recommend ordering yourself one of the valley duffels!

This isn’t an ad, it’s a PSA for the greater good🌈!
We just love the bags, love the mission, and love supporting small family-owned businesses like ourselves!

🤠adventure on.

🐴 TIP TUESDAY 🐴
No better way than to learn by example right? Well…here are two perfect examples of how to properly approach a horse vs. the improper way to approach a horse 🤪. ALWAYS approach a horse from the front and NEVER from behind.
As you can see in the second picture by his ears…Lookout (our buckskin mustang) is less than thrilled with her approach but luckily very patient. Horses will tell you exactly how they feel with their body language, it’s never a mystery!

The snow is pretty and all, but we’re dreaming of wildflowers and green hillsides. The wildflowers in the Jarbidge are absolutely gorgeous in early summer. Lupine, Indian Paintbrush, Mule’s Ear, California Aster, and Monkshood are just some of the wildflowers you’ll see as you ride through the wilderness!

Enjoy this shot of Master Guide Lowell Prunty back in the day next to an old mining cabin in the Jarbidge Wilderness. The town of Jarbidge was a mining hot spot in the early 1900s, and you will happen upon old mining cabins throughout the wilderness. Such rich history!

Lowell started guiding hunters in the Jarbidge when he was 12, and nobody knows the country better than he does.
