It's time for a public service announcement. Most of the following was copied from a fellow Travel Agent and colleague of mine, but I personalized it to fit my business model.
When you work with a Travel Agent like me who doesn’t charge fees, I don’t get paid for all the hours I spend doing all the behind-the-scenes work. Specifically, the quotes, research, emails, phone calls, comparisons, advice, planning, management of payments, and travel documentation. I'm not an hourly employee for the cruise lines, all inclusive resorts, tour companies, Disney, etc. I only get paid after your vacation actually happens, and only if I am the one who booked it for you.
If someone comes to me for cruise or resort comparisons, pricing breakdowns, date options, explanations on tickets, packages, and logistics - and then they book it themselves? That means all my work was done for free. That also means you are supporting a large vacation corporation versus a small business owner like me.
If you choose to work with me, here’s how you can support me in the kindest and simplest ways:
1) Be open about what you want - best price, best experience, luxury, budget, anything.
2) If you are price-shopping or working with multiple agents, it’s totally okay. Just let me know. I don’t compete with other Travel Agents or try to steal customers from them. My reputation stands for itself. With me you get integrity, quick responses, thorough communication, and a lot of hard work to get you the best deals. Just ask any of my former or current clients. I am confident they will vouch for me. If I can't get you a better deal, I will be totally honest and advise you to stick with what you have.
3) If you find a deal online, let me book it for you! I can get you the same price, plus you get my personalized service. My favorite clients are the ones who say, “I could book it myself, but I want to support you.” I can also add in some extra perks for you, just for booking through me.
4) Please do not ghost me. This is really the worst thing you can do. If your plans change, just shoot me a quick message and let me know. You won't hurt my feelings - I promise! I would much rather have you let me know versus me repeatedly contacting you in vain, trying to find out your intentions. My time is valuable, even though I don't charge anyone for the time I spend working on their vacations.
