So glad it will reopen!

Good news has arrived from the National Forests in North Carolina — Sliding Rock in Transylvania County will reopen April 30, 2022. ⁣

After Tropical Storm Fred, the lower observation deck at Sliding Rock was damaged beyond repair. It will not be rebuilt in time for the opening. However, visitors will be able to walk down to the stream at that location and view the sliding action from the upper observation deck. Damage repair and improvements to the site will continue in the coming years.⁣

Sliding Rock is extremely popular, so visitors are encouraged to arrive early and avoid the peak hours of noon-4 pm. When the parking lot fills up, it is closed until spaces become available. Visitors can explore other nearby attractions such as the Cradle of Forestry, Looking Glass Falls, or Pink Beds. Sliding Rock may temporarily close due to heavy rainfall, lightning, or high-water levels.⁣

Happy sliding! 📸 Photo owned by Explore Brevard

I can't wait to do this!

Yesterday I spent a couple of hours at A Stone's Throw sitting on the front porch with one of our guests, Jo Boone. Jo is an excellent crafter and tried to teach me how to crochet. Alas, my fingers just wouldn't get coordinated enough to do it. It would definitely take me a lot more than one lesson to learn! Jo just flies through crocheting anything without counting or looking and things just materialize out of skeins of yarn and become something beautiful and useable!!! Thank you, Jo, for a wonderful respite from my usual crazy work schedule and for all the gardening tips, too! Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a safe trip back home!
