NYC Trip: Harry Potter And The Cursed Child!

The whole reason for our New York trip was seeing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theatre.

There’s something exciting about getting dressed up for a show, heading into a Broadway theater, and knowing you’re about to experience something you can’t quite recreate at home.

And getting to combine Broadway with the wizarding world? YES, PLEASE! I wanted to see Tom Felton as Draco when it was first announced but it didn’t work out. BUT THEN they announced he would have dates going later into the year and we bought tickets immediately.

I grew up reading Harry Potter and of course went to every midnight movie premiere and book drop. Not only was the entire show absolutely amazing but getting to hear THE Draco Malfoy say “Scared Potter?” in real life just made my little nerdy heart so happy.

NYC Trip: Harry Potter New York!

Some places are fun to visit. And then there are places that make the Harry Potter fan in you want to explore absolutely EVERYTHING.

A stop at the Harry Potter Store in New York City had to make our itinerary! We explored everything, had some butter b**r and of course hand to grab some exclusive merch.

From the magical displays to all the wizarding-world merchandise, this was such a fun stop to add to our NYC adventure. There’s something special about visiting a place dedicated to a world that has brought so much imagination and magic to so many people.

And we’re not finished with the Harry Potter adventures just yet.

Tell me, Potterheads: if you could bring home ONE thing from the wizarding world, would you choose a wand, a house robe, a magical creature, or something else entirely?

NYC TRIP: World Trade Center & The 9/11 Memorial

Some places are about seeing the sights. Others invite you to slow down and reflect.

During our time in New York City, we visited the World Trade Center area and the 9/11 Memorial.

It’s difficult to put into words the feeling of being in a place connected to such a significant moment in our country’s history. The memorial offers space to pause, remember the lives lost, and reflect on the people and families whose lives were changed forever. It was very heavy and instant sadness. I was able to hold it together until I saw a rose. For those who don’t know, a white rose is placed in the name of a person who has a birthday that specific day. That was so emotional.

Among all the busy streets, bright lights, sightseeing, and excitement of New York, this was a reminder that a city holds so much more than the attractions we come to see.

Travel can be fun, exciting, and full of unforgettable adventures. It can also give us opportunities to learn, remember, and appreciate the stories behind the places we visit.

We are grateful we had the opportunity to experience this part of New York.

May we always remember.

NYC Trip: Italy and Ghirardelli!

First up: Eataly! We both had paninis and they were SO good. When we were walking around the market I found out my husband had never had gelato (🤯) so of course we had to get some. We picked the salted caramel to share and of course it was also delicious!

If you love Italian food, markets, and browsing all the delicious things a place has to offer, this is such a fun kind of stop to add to a city itinerary.

And then Ghirardelli! My husband was so excited to see the Kong milkshake they were offering at the time. Not only do they have options that I haven’t seen around home (caramel apple!!) but the staff was AMAZING. I wish I had gotten her name because the employee there was one of the nicest people we have come in contact with in any travel.

Definitely check out these two spots!!

NYC Trip: Eating our way through New York!

Let’s talk about one of the BEST parts of traveling: THE FOOD! New York gave us plenty of opportunities to try something delicious!

-Al’s Deli (another Auntie recommend that DID NOT disappoint!) : I had a plain bagel with scallion cream cheese and Jacob had a sausage, egg and cheese bagel. SO GOOD.

-Broad Nosh : I had a asiago bagel with scallion cream cheese and Jacob had a sauce, egg and cheese on an onion bagel. Good but Al’s was better IMO.

🍰 NY Bakery : I’m a sucker for macarons. These were okay. But we weren’t able to tell what flavor they were. The cannoli was good though!

My aunt warned me but I was skeptical. Now I’m addicted to NY bagels. Especially with scallion cream cheese. Nothing comes close.

Tell me this: when you visit a new city, are you planning your meals ahead of time, hunting down famous local spots, or just following whatever smells good?

NYC Trip: Times Square!

You can’t go to New York City and not experience Times Square!

The giant billboards. The crowds. The taxis. The buildings that seem to go on forever. There is SO much happening everywhere you look that you almost don’t know where to look first!

And yes, it rained while we were exploring. Because apparently New York decided we needed the full experience!

But even with the rain, seeing Times Square in person was something special. Pictures can show you the lights, but they really don’t capture the feeling of standing there surrounded by all that energy.

This trip was full of moments where I caught myself thinking, We’re actually here. We really made it to New York!

And we’re only getting started sharing the adventure!

NYC Trip: Big Bus Night Tour

When I went to buy tickets to the Bug Bus Hop On Hop Off they were running a deal with a night tour included. I love a deal so I bought it and do not regret it after the experience we had!

New York City at night is a whole different experience. The lights, the buildings, the streets, the energy, there’s something special about seeing the city come alive after dark.

We took the Big Bus night tour, and one of the things that really made the experience stand out was our tour guide, Aaron. A great guide can make a sightseeing tour so much more memorable, and ours absolutely deserves a shout-out!

The nighttime views is one of my favorite parts of seeing NYC after dark.

Would I recommend considering a night tour if you’re visiting New York? Absolutely! It’s a different way to experience the city, especially if you want to see the famous sights lit up at night.

If you’re planning a trip to NYC, remember that your itinerary doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down. Sometimes the nighttime experiences deserve a spot on the schedule, too.
