Important Notice: Modified Wildlife Clinic Hours Due to Extreme Heat
Due to the extreme heat indices forecasted for Roswell next week, CNC’s Wildlife Clinic will operate with reduced intake hours from Monday, July 28 through Wednesday, July 30, open only from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This adjusted schedule will allow our Wildlife staff and volunteers additional time to closely monitor our resident animals and patients for signs of heat stress and take proactive measures as needed.
In addition, as a precautionary measure, the beaver will be taken off exhibit at 3:00 PM.
How You Can Help Local Wildlife During Extreme Heat:
Provide clean water in multiple locations and at varying heights, ideally in shaded areas. Refresh the water daily.
Use shallow plant saucers on the ground for chipmunks, rabbits, opossums, toads, and other ground-dwelling animals.
If you don’t have a birdbath, place a plant saucer on a table to serve birds and other small wildlife.
Add twigs, leaves, or marbles to water dishes to prevent drowning of small animals and insects.
Create Shelter & Reduce Stress on Wildlife:
Delay yardwork such as trimming shrubs and bushes—natural overgrowth offers essential shaded refuge.
Shade can reduce perceived temperatures by up to 20 degrees Fahrenheit, making a significant difference for wildlife.
Support Native Wildlife with Your Garden:
Maintain native plants and shrubs that produce seeds, berries, and fruits to provide a food source for local species.
Water your garden in the early morning or late evening. This helps lower ambient temperatures, keeps plants healthy, and provides hydration opportunities for pollinators and other wildlife.
Thank you for helping us protect and support our native wildlife during this period of extreme heat.
If you find an animal needing support that CNC is unable to provide, we encourage you to access for additional resources.
