Istanbul, Turkey: Pera Palace Hotel: started in 1895 for the purpose of hosting the passengers of the Orient Express, a long-distance passenger train service. As the first modern hotel in Istanbul to have electricity during the late Ottoman period, Pera Palace Hotel’s fame as a leader in improvement was further approved when it was the first hotel to establish an electric lift. Famous guests like Zsa Zsa Gabor and Ernest Hemingway could appreciate the fun of traveling in the ascending cage up to their room. Crime story novelist Agatha Christie had a favorite place in the hotel – number 411 – where she seemingly wrote Murder on the Orient Express. The Patisserie de Pera offers scrumptious desserts, so it’s a must stop for those who appreciate history.

Hisarlık, Turkey: Archaeological Site of TROY - ancient city settled around 3600 BC, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Troy was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. As a result, the archeological site that has been left is divided into nine layers, each corresponding to a city built on the ruins of the previous. The legend of Troy, told in Homer's Iliad and Odyssey: “Helen of Troy” was the wife of Menelaus, king of Sparta, and was considered the most beautiful woman in the world. When Paris, the Trojan prince, kidnapped Helen, Menelaus convinced his brother Agamemnon to lead an army to besiege Troy and recapture her, thus leading to the Trojan War. Now the symbolic wooden Trojan Horse represents the legendary wooden horse built by the Greeks to enter the city of Troy and win the war. The Greeks built the horse as a gift to the goddess Athena, but it was actually filled with Greek soldiers. The soldiers then climbed out and let the other Greek soldiers in.
