This! It’s important to check your sources and make sure the information you’re seeing online is accurate and/or relevant! The Village of Ruidoso does a great job keeping people informed with real-time info.👇
📱 Social Media Reminder: In our digital age, dramatic footage spreads faster than facts.
To our residents and visitors: We know last year’s events have everyone more alert to weather-related posts on social media. That awareness is good, but we've noticed misleading posts circulating about flooding in our area that are either outdated, from a different location, and/or exaggerated.
During weather events, misinformation spreads quickly and causes real harm - scaring families, hurting local businesses, creating panic, and prompting questions based on expired information.
𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴:
✅ Check the source - is it official?
✅ Verify the date and location (we don't have palm trees in Ruidoso!)
✅ Look for context and facts, not just dramatic visuals and audio
Our emergency management team is committed to keeping our residents and visitors informed with factual and current conditions in our community.
