Today marks the anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision in Bostock v. Clayton County. Six years ago, a historic 6-3 ruling permanently changed the landscape of equality in America, declaring that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act protects LGBTQIA+ workers from being fired simply for who they are or who they love.
This was a massive milestone. It gave millions of q***r and trans folks across the countryโand right here in St. Johns Countyโthe peace of mind that their livelihood couldn't be stripped away because of their identity. It is a victory worth shouting from the rooftops, especially during Pride Month! ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ
But as we celebrate how far weโve come, we also look at the horizon. True equality doesn't stop at the workplace. In the face of ongoing anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation, school board battles, and threats to healthcare, our fire hasn't dimmed.
We celebrate the victories, we honor the advocates who fought to get us here, and we keep our boots on the ground for the work still left to do.
From all of us at House of Prism: Happy Bostock Anniversary. Letโs keep pushing forward, together. ๐๏ธโจ
