We took the risk yesterday and made the run out to some deeper water hoping to find fishable conditions. Lately we have had poor current conditions making it nearly impossible to fish out there. When we got there we had less than 1mph of current and it was game on. Caught our first Black Grouper ever and a few more scamps to tag along. What was a scheduled 6-Hour trip quickly turned into a 4-Hour when we were met with 5’ at 5 seconds at the inlet. Nonetheless we are prepared for every scenario we face and adjusted accordingly. We made it out today with beautiful seas for an 8 hour trip. Made the call to fish close in an area I hadn’t been to in a while based on less than stellar reports in the usual areas, which paid off. We ended up with 8 cobia releasing 6 that were 1/4-1/2 inch too short, and saw 20 or more. Other catches included a king, handful of summertime seabass, porgy, a good helping of triggers and more. Made it out today with better than forecasted conditions for most of the day. Unfortunately we were met with a raging tide which proved to make our mission challenging. That said we had a crew who was ready to handle it so we busted out the deep drop leads and went to work, up to 8lbs at times. Regardless of the current the fish were hungry and we made a day of it. And that’s a wrap on our yellowfin season, didn’t get as many trips as I would have liked to get but we had a 100% success rate on catching tuna on these trips.
