From The Statue of Liberty to Tampa Bay!

One of my "favorite" ships that plied the Tampa Bay waters back in the heyday of steamboats (1900s-1920s) was the steamer Favorite. Operated by a company of the same name, the Favorite took passengers from Tampa and St. Pete. But wait, there's more!

A couple really cool fact about the Favorite -

• The ship was built in New York in 1888.

• The ship initially served as a sightseeing boat for the Statue of Liberty!

• Around 1901 it was brought to Tampa and put into service for over two decades, but not without it's troubles. The hurricane of 1921 pushed the ship into shore and it was feared the vessel would be a total loss. However, it was fixed and re-floated without as much trouble as initially feared.

• The Favorite continued to ferry passengers for a few more years following the 1921 Hurricane, until around 1925.
