Take the 284 exit to Salado and slow your roll to a historic stroll. The village of yesterday's cattle drives and stagecoaches has preserved over 40 historical sites, most close enough to be enjoyed as a walking tour.

History is Salado's middle name.

In fact, just west of Salado, artifacts of some of the oldest peoples known to inhabit North America have been found. The Gault Archeological Site has recovered more than 1.4 million artifacts, including some of the earliest Clovis art in all of the Americas.

History is still being made in Salado.
Come be a part of it.

Today, our little town is gathering to honor and say goodbye to one of our very own. A true gentleman — quiet in spirit, yet strong in heart — with a soul so genuine it left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. Though his absence leaves a noticeable quiet in our streets, the memories he gave us will echo through this town forever.

If you love the kind of place that feels like a warm hug — where folks wave from their porches, strangers don’t stay strangers for long, and neighbors show up before you even ask — then Salado is your town. This is a community where people truly care. We greet newcomers like old friends, show up when someone’s in need, and stand tall when it’s time to protect what matters. It’s that small-town charm that makes visitors feel like they’ve come home… and keeps them coming back.

Rolly, you are missed more than words can express. But we promise to carry on your spirit — with every welcoming smile, every kind word, every open door. Just like grandma’s house, where there’s always a pot of coffee brewing and a seat at the table, we’ll keep Salado warm and welcoming. We’ll greet our guests the way you always did — with genuine kindness, as if they’ve been here forever.

If you’re in town today at 1:30 p.m., the procession will make its way down Main Street as we accompany our dear friend to the church for his final farewell. We welcome you to join us and be a part of our small town— step outside, line the sidewalks, remove your hats, and help us honor a true Salado legacy as he passes by.

Rest will dear friend. We will proudly carry on your legacy — both in your honorable service as our Constable and through your beloved presence in the Salado Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade. You will forever be a part of our traditions, our memories, and the spirit of this town you loved so well.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved friend and community leader, Rollie Correa, who left us last evening. Rollie was more than just a familiar face at Tablerock. He was our Tonkawa Chief, a tireless volunteer, and a cornerstone of our shared mission to preserve and celebrate the spirit of this place.

Rollie and his wife, Beth, were longtime members of the Tablerock board and poured their hearts into every project, every performance, and every gathering. It is no exaggeration to say that Tablerock Park would not be what it is today without Rollie’s vision and dedication. He was instrumental in securing the grant that helped develop and officially designate Tablerock Park—a lasting legacy that will benefit our community for generations to come.

Whether he was building sets, mending fences, or taking the stage, Rollie gave of himself freely and fully. He brought passion, wisdom, and kindness to everything he touched. He led not just with words, but through tireless action and a deep love for his community.

Our hearts are with Beth and the entire Correa family as we mourn this tremendous loss. We invite our Tablerock family and the greater community to join us in honoring Rollie’s memory, and in sending heartfelt condolences and prayers to those who loved him most.

Rollie, thank you for everything. Your light will continue to shine here at Tablerock in the trees, on the stage, and in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know you.

A Step Back into Salado.

Salado was an oasis along the dusty traveler's trail during the stagecoach days of Texas.

In the 1870's, the cold springs, clear creek and newly built co-ed college made Salado not only a cultural center, but the perfect place to replenish after a weary day of travel.

In fact, in 1908, the Temple Daily Telegram wrote, "In the olden days, all roads led to Rome, and before the days of the railroad, all roads led through Salado."

The railroad did not come to Salado-
and the "glass-half-empty folks" said the town was going to die.

But the springs kept bubbling,
and the creek kept flowing,
and the people kept coming,
to replenish after a weary day of travel.

Here's to Salado--still alive and brimming with glass-half-full folks. Stop by and take a stroll.

This is Salado - About a month ago, we had the pleasure of meeting a sweet lady named Ann, who visited town with her family. While exploring, she discovered one of her daddy’s paintings proudly displayed at the Stagecoach Inn. She graciously shared the story of her father and his artwork with us — a memory we won’t soon forget.

Today, Ann returned — this time with her sister, Bettie, who is also an artist. Bettie shared that she once displayed her own paintings in the very same building that now houses our museum. She kindly allowed us to share her own “Salado story,” adding yet another beautiful layer to our town’s tapestry of memories.

It’s moments like these — hearing the heartfelt stories of those who pass through and their connections to our history — that make our hearts truly full. We’ll admit, we may be a little biased when it comes to Salado, but with people like Ann and Bettie, and the legacies they bring with them, how could we not be?

Thank you, Ann, for bringing your sister Bettie to us. We love your story, and we just know your daddy would be proud to see how his legacy continues to inspire.
