So I don’t know if I should call this travel business what it is, which is not a failed venture, but more of a very slow-moving opportunity.
I started this two years ago. I finally have 100 followers, and what I’m noticing is that I have no clients.
The people who have wanted to travel have been family and friends, and you really cannot build a business with family and friends. Usually, most family and friends don’t have the money.
The reality of it all is simply this:
I joined a travel agency hosting company because I wanted to travel more and get paid to travel. I see all these other companies talking about how lucrative this business is, but I’m not seeing it.
When you reach out to other people in your niche who work for the same hosting company, their response is that they dealt with mostly family and friends.
Not everyone has millionaire family and friends.
If that’s how you have to build the business, then this is going to be more of a hobby for me than a business that actually makes money.
Right now, it’s more like side money—not primary money—from the random trips I actually book.
And the hardest part?
It’s hard to have clientele when everyone asks you to do something for them, but then no one pulls the trigger on what they asked you to do.
I’m not calling this a failure.
I’m calling it what it has been so far:
A very slow-moving opportunity.
And I’m curious—if you’re a travel advisor, how did you get your first REAL clients?
Because “family and friends” can only take you so far.
