Calling all Salida area friends—
Please mark your calendars:
1. 18 January Thursday at 9am I will be a guest on Rick White's KHEN 106.9 talk show, Sunny Side Up, with the newly released special limited edition of You May Plow Here: The Narrative of Sara Brooks. (The 18th is our beloved Bernice Strawn's 94th birthday, by the way.)

2. 1 February Thursday from 5-7pm—to kick off Black History Month—our beautiful Salida Regional Public Library is hosting the local release party for the newly published special limited edition of You May Plow Here: The Narrative of Sara Brooks. A book signing will be followed by a reading and discussion.

3. If you belong to a book club or other organization that hosts special programs, including programs by writer-artists, or just want to get a group of friends together for a reading and discussion, please let me know. I would love to be your guest.

5 x 10 meter stone village house with interlocking red clay-tile roof on fringe of village 60 meters from road with commanding view of the Lakonian Gulf is for sale. The roofless house was purchased by American writer-artist Thordis Niela Simonsen in 1984.
She lovingly restored it by hand and built an addition with terrace roof to accommodate a bath and storeroom. Thordis is opening the Museum of Authenticity, a small museum of art and culture, including a collection of things Greek, in Salida, Colorado and

ROUGH GUIDE TO GREECE, continued thanks! I just received a message from the author of the Rough Guide to Crete and Rough Guide to Greece. "We recommend your tours in our guides," he reminded me. A few weeks ago, I received a surprise request from the National Storytelling Network to publish one of my oil pastel paintings on the cover of the June/July 2015 Storytelling Magazine, which will be distributed at the annual conference in Kansas City 30 July–2 August. The theme of this year's conference is "Pathways." The painting is titled #137 (04/19/2008, 17 x 14"). Nice!

The painting belongs to a series of arches that evolved from a painting of a window belonging to my house in Greece (see blog post 4 July 2011 for the first painting in the series and post 20 August 2011 for a photograph of the actual window that inspired the series). In my mind, I was painting a tree, tree of life, paths or pathways... This is why I title my painting with numbers: what is a tree in my mind becomes pathways in someone else's mind. Lovely!
