Fact of the week- Bison are born a reddish-orange color and turn to the adult dark brown when they are weaned at about 7 months old. Their natural predators wolves are red-green colorblind, so this may help them to blend in with grasses and avoid predation during early life. Join us for more fun facts on the island! www.safariutah.com

Pronghorn are not true antelope but are the inspiration for Antelope Island's name. The are herbivores, eating mainly forbs and woody shrubs like Sagebrush and Rabbitbrush. In the winter, Pronghorn rely almost entirely on Sagebrush as it keeps its leaves year-round. Book direct at safariutah.com and come see the second-fastest land mammal in the world!

Happy 100th Birthday to the irreplaceable David Attenborough. An immensely wise and humble man who has helped shaped the course of wildlife conservation for decades, and inspired millions of people over multiple generations, continents and backgrounds to care for our planet Earth. Thank you for being a voice for those that have none, and for reminding us all that we are a part of nature, not separate from it.

One thing people don't expect to see on Antelope Island- Porcupines! These spiky critters are actually very good climbers, often seen munching on their preferred diet of buds and bark in trees on the island. Check out those orange teeth- their enamel is reinforced with iron to help withstand the constant gnawing they do.
