The goal of any skin track is to make as efficient of a route as possible up a mountainside. A consistent, mellow angle track is key for a group to ascend upward to their potential (most tracks are far too steep). When the track needs to turn or switch back, the lower angle the terrain is, the easier the turn is (a kick turn is unnecessary). Flatter terrain on the base of tree wells is a logical place to place a turn on a track. Often while in the trees, route finding can be like a billiards game, lining up angles to pockets. Try it, it’s the best way up! Just don’t fall in.
