❤️🔥 MUCH LOVE & GRATITUDE TO OUR LISANGUA COMMUNITY 🔥❤️
Lisangua means to "come together," and this weekend, our community did exactly that! Thank you to every person who stepped onto the floor, picked up a drum, and brought your beautiful energy to the weekend.
Together, we created a sacred space for culture, connection, and joy. Drum and dance are one continuous conversation, and your rhythm made it unforgettable.
🙌 A very special thank you to our incredible teachers, mentors, musicians and team:
*Matondo to Baba Fred Simpson for setting the heartbeat of the weekend in Saturday's drum class. (and driving across the country to be here, dang Baba… thank you so much!
* Matondo to Tata Bret Balekita for bringing the fire to the Congolese drum class. You truly have a very special talent with the drum!
*Matondo to Mama Mabiba Baegne for guiding us through a beautiful Congolese dance grand finale. How lucky are we to learn from you on the dance floor here in Salt Lake City.
* Matondo to Salt City Swords for hosting our Sunday spaces and supporting our vision and community.
*Matondo Jim Hayes for your brilliant graphic artistry. You’re the best!
*Matondo to my lovely wife Rae Victor Speirs for all your hard work, and dedication but most of all your beautiful heart!
To our dancers, drummers, volunteers, elders, and families—we appreciate you more than you know.
Keep the rhythm alive in your spirit. We are all together! Wantanara! Matondo! 🥁💃✨
