Catania’s fish market is a world of its own: loud, raw, unapologetically alive.
Vendors carving swordfish with surgical precision, voices bouncing between stone walls, faces shaped by years of early mornings and salty air.

👨‍🌾 Meet Giuseppe, 78 years old and still waking up at 5 a.m. every morning to tend to his beloved Chianina cows.

For over six decades, Giuseppe has lived and breathed the rhythms of the land. No alarms needed — the crow of the rooster and the scent of fresh hay are all he needs to start the day.

Every morning he feeds the animals, mends fences, and walks the same worn path his father once walked, boots caked in mud and heart full of purpose. He doesn’t use a smartphone, but he knows every shift in the wind and every change in the soil.

Giuseppe says he’s not interested in retirement — “as long as I can hold this stick,” he laughs, “I’ll keep working.”
His hands may be weathered, but his spirit is strong, grounded in a life of quiet devotion, tradition, and care.

A reminder that true richness often smells of hay, sounds like slow footsteps on stone, and tastes like fresh milk at sunrise.
