🌊☀ Check out our Adopt-A-Beach Sign at the Rodanthe Pier!!!

🌊☀ We are so excited to be part of the official launch of this new program! It is such a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to help keep our pristine beaches on Hatteras Island safe and clean. This is especially important with all the unique wildlife, fragile ecosystems and the bountiful turtle nests, shore birds and aquatic life.

🌊☀ Pelican Watch Hatteras Island has officially adopted the section of beach from the Rodanthe Pier to Ramp 23. We've already conducted numerous beach clean ups and are looking forward to more throughout the year to help protect the future of Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

🌊☀ It is truly sad how much beachgoers leave behind. Can you guess what some of our most collected litter items are? Comment below!

🌊🐢It's World Turtle Day!!! 🌊🐢

Cape Hatteras National Seashore is such as special place and is home to so much wildlife. When you are at Pelican Watch Hatteras Island remember we have baby sea turtles in our backyard! 🐢🌊When you are on the island, please help protect them!

Sea Turtle Nesting Season is from May 1- Oct 31. Nesting mother turtles and hatchlings use the moon, stars and breaking waves to find their way to nesting beaches. Artificial lights near the beach cause disorientation. The sea turtles mistake artificial lights for the moon, causing them to crawl into dunes, sidewalks or streets where they die of dehydration or are taken by predators.

You can help sea turtle by doing the following:
🐢 Keep lights out!
🐢 Fill beach holes
🐢 Knock down sandcastles when leaving the beach
🐢 Leave only footprints
🐢 Don't use flashlights
🐢 Do not disturb sea turtle nests
