Get Outside! It's good for you.

A few days ago was World Mental Health Day. There is no better time to point out some of the research that shows how spending time in nature is great for your mental health. For example, one study showed that just 20 minutes in nature improves concentration and reduces the need for ADHD medication in children. Or that the mere act of seeing a bird and interacting with it – such as watching it even for a short time – means that people are less likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, and stress. These benefits apply even when controlling for things like neighborhood deprivation, income, and other socio-demographic factors. So get out there – whether it is on the Mission Reach trail by San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, or under a tree in your neighborhood – being out in nature makes you healthier and happier. The research proves it!
