On this International Women’s Day, Regent Seven Seas Cruises® is proud to unveil the new master of Seven Seas Splendor™ as Serena Melani — the first female captain to launch a new ship in cruise industry history.


A distinguished trailblazer in her community, the Livorno native is no stranger to being the first. In 2016, she took the helm of Seven Seas Mariner® and became our first female captain and the first Italian woman to become the master of a cruise ship.

“There is a growing number of very talented female captains emerging in our industry, and we’re proud to be pioneers for those women who aspire to lead the Bridge,” said Captain Melani.

Overseeing 750 guests and a crew of 542, Captain Melani embarks February 6th, 2020, on Seven Seas Splendor's inaugural voyage — a 14-night transatlantic journey from Barcelona to Miami.
