Had a fun trip to White Sands today. The gypsum sand was pretty neat to walk around in.

Fun Fact- according to a sign we saw in the park, the average American consumes 28 pounds of gypsum each year. It's in a lot of foods...who knew?

Went to Saguaro National Park to see cactuses' flower, unfortunately we are bit early to visit. However we had a great time with our friends 🌵

Some deer crossed the road in front of us and I damn near ripped my pants pocket apart trying to get my phone out fast enough to take a video.

We have arrived in Colorado Springs! We will be here for the week. RV park has no Wifi (go figure)... Time to raise the Wifi Ranger and see if we can pickup a nearby hotspot in town.

We went to the Boot Hill Museum today, where we learned the history behind Dodge City and the famed Boot Hill.

Apparently, the US Government tried to fight the local Indian tribes via troops from Fort Dodge, but they were losing badly. So, they figured if they wipe out the food supply, the Tribes would move. So 2,000 hunters arrived in town and nearly wiped out 70 million buffalo.

With buffalo hunters making about a month's wages in a day, they found a way to spend it as fast as they got it. Lawlessness soon set in, and those on the losing side of a disagreement, found their way to the top of the hill, buried in a shallow grave with their boots on...and sometimes those boots sticking out of the grave. Hence "Boot Hill".

Once lawmen, such as Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson (among others), cleaned up the town, Dodge City became a thriving cattle town, then went onto being a successful farming community.
