Went to Goldthwaite this weekend to cook some goat along with the three regular meats. I have cooked this event for several years and have made many friends and acquaintances over the years so Carol and I bought property there a little over a year ago and will retire there within the next year. This qualified me for the Mills County bragging rites trophy which goes to the high point brisket entered by a Mills County resident.

This year was very special to me as I wanted to win the trophy which is a memorial to Guy Leverett, a Great Man and a dear friend. I have cooked with Guy and his two sons, Charlie and Joe, for several years and they have become like family to me. With my determination cap on it was my goal to win the traveling trophy to hold for the next year and after the dust cleared my fourth place brisket was enough to claim the rite to take it home with great honors. Goat and ribs were kiss your Sister tickets and chicken was a final table. What a Great Weekend.

Well, Cactus Flat Cookers is headed for Beaumont to help the oldest daughter, Michelle, with a benefit for her friend who has cancer. Pork butts and briskets...on the pits. Doing benefits like this are way better than competition cookoffs, in MY humble opinion. (opinion by Carol Bade) Blessings to all!!
