For me, creativity and travel have become beautifully connected.

I love seeing incredible destinations, but what I enjoy just as much is coming home and finding a way to tell the story. 📸✈️

A photograph can capture a beautiful place, but storytelling can bring back the feeling — the people you met, the unexpected moments, the laughter, the challenge, and sometimes even the moment that changed you.

That's what I try to share through Debra’s Travel Adventures. Not just where I've traveled, but the stories behind those journeys.

Travel gives us so many opportunities to be creative — through photography, writing, video, food, culture, and the memories we choose to share.

A busy day behind the scenes at Debra’s Travel Adventures! 💜✈️

I spent the day working a bridal show, meeting people and talking travel. After a long day, I'm calling it an early night.

I've been a little quiet on social media for the past few days, but I'll be back tomorrow with more travel inspiration, adventures, and stories to share.

Sometimes even a travel advisor needs a little recharge! 😊

🚆 Today was about learning so I can better help my travelers tomorrow.

I spent part of my day at an Armstrong Collective event learning more about Canyon Spirit and Rocky Mountaineer.

Scenic rail travel is about so much more than getting from one place to another. It gives you time to sit back, take in those incredible mountains and canyons, and enjoy the journey itself. 🏔️

My clients and friends couldn't attend with me today, but I was there gathering information, asking questions and learning more that I can bring back and share with them.

That continued learning is one of my favorite parts of being a travel advisor. 💜

Some of my greatest lessons have never happened in a classroom. They've happened while traveling. 🌎

School was very difficult for me when I was young. I actually came close to not graduating from high school.🎓

It's interesting to look back at that now because today I can't get enough of learning.

And travel has taught me so much.✈️

Reading about a culture is one thing. Being there is something completely different.

Hearing another language spoken around you. Tasting a food you've never tried. Learning the history behind a place. Talking with local people. Seeing a landscape with your own eyes that you've only seen in photographs.

That's one of the reasons I believe travel can be so powerful.

Today, on International Literacy Day, I'm thinking about learning in all of its forms—and about the people around the world who still don't have equal access to education and literacy.

I'm still learning every day. I'm studying three languages, learning more about technology and storytelling, continuing my travel education, and learning from every destination I'm fortunate enough to experience.

As a travel advisor, that's something I want to bring to the trips I plan, too. Not just where you're going, but opportunities to understand a little more about the people, culture and place you're visiting.

Because sometimes the world itself is the classroom. 🌎📚

🐧💜 Sometimes travel really is all about being in the right place at the right time.

Looking back at my trip to Iceland, I realize just how fortunate I was to see hundreds of Atlantic puffins along the cliffs—and take far more puffin photos than I probably needed! 📸😂

Puffins come ashore during their breeding season, but by around September, many of Iceland’s cliffs become much quieter as the birds and their young head back out to sea. They’ll spend much of the year out on the open North Atlantic before returning to land for another breeding season.

I was there in June, right in the middle of puffin season. At the time, I knew seeing them was special, but I don't think I fully appreciated just how much timing mattered.

That's one of the things I love about travel. You can visit the same destination at two different times of year and have two completely different experiences. Sometimes choosing when to go is just as important as choosing where to go. 🌍💜

And yes... I still have plenty more puffin pictures to share! 🐧📸

🌅 Some of my favorite travel memories aren't about the biggest attractions or the busiest days.

Sometimes, they're simply about stopping to watch the sun go down.

These sunsets have followed me from cruise ships to beautiful destinations, from walks along the beach to quiet evenings right at home on my patio. 💜

Travel has given me some spectacular views, but I don't think I'll ever get tired of a beautiful sunset.

Sometimes the simplest moments become the ones we remember. ✨

🐦 Someone asked me to share as many puffin pictures as I could… Challenge accepted! 😂💜

I took a lot of puffin photographs during my Lindblad National Geographic expedition—and I don't regret a single one.

Seeing them in the wild was incredible. But part of the experience was respecting the fact that this was their home and I was the visitor.

We moved carefully. We kept our distance. And sometimes we simply stood there and watched.
Now you get to enjoy a little puffin overload with me. 🐦💜

🐋 Seeing wildlife in a photograph is one thing. Seeing it living freely in its own world changes something in you.

Today is National Wildlife Day, and it brings me back to some extraordinary moments I've been fortunate enough to experience while traveling.
Seeing the puffins was incredibly exciting for me. But part of that experience was understanding that I was the visitor in their home. 💜

You couldn't simply run up to a puffin to get the perfect photograph. They were on the cliffs, nesting and mating, living their lives. We moved slowly, took small steps, kept our distance and respected their space.

And when I was able to capture a photograph like this one, it made the moment even more special. 🐧

Then there were the whales. 🐋
Watching them in the open ocean was spectacular. I felt incredibly fortunate just to see them—and even more fortunate to capture several together in one photograph.

Travel has taught me that seeing wildlife in its natural environment is a privilege, not an entitlement.

We can take the photograph. We can stand in awe. We can carry that memory home with us.
But while we're there, we have a responsibility to respect the animals and protect the places they call home. 🌎🌱

Because the greatest wildlife encounter isn't the one where we get closest.

It's the one where we leave without disturbing the life we were privileged enough to witness. 💜
