Girlsgottatravel

Girlsgottatravel We create travel adventures for women of all ages and backgrounds, from busy moms to singles, and executives to retirees.

Make new and lasting friendships as we meet for land-based travel, cruises and more! The two of us, Debbi Sturch and Susan Johnson, have over 20 years of experience between us. We are both full-time travel coordinators, associated with TEK n Travel, one of San Diego's best travel agencies. Our passion is travel, planning travel, anticipating travel, curiosity about our world, discovering new places to go and new things to do. Although we have a wide variety of clients, we discovered that women are really underserved by the travel industry. In 2012, we established a women's travel group called W.H.A.T! - Women Having Awesome Times. Over the years, we did many trips and activities and finally decided to jump in with four feet and establish GirlsGottaTravel and GirlsGottaCruise - trips for women only - and much easier to remember than W.H.A.T! We have two pages because we think separating the land and water journeys is easier. Naturally, we will shamelessly cross-pollinate the information across both pages. Come with us as we create travel opportunities for women of all ages and backgrounds, from busy moms to singles, and executives to retirees. Or... ask us to create something special just for you. Make new and lasting friendships as we escape for adventures on land and sea (and rivers!). Learn firsthand about our wonderful world and the people in it. Meet intelligent, fun, interesting new travel companions and discover the rewards of traveling with a small group of like-minded women. We will learn about different cultures and discover how other women laugh, dance, cook, work, shop and live. Come alone or bring your friends, mothers, sisters, partners, daughters, aunts, grandmothers and more! We are in this together and
Life is Too Short to Stay Home!

Girls in the Windows, 1960.

This iconic photograph shows 43 women in colorful clothing posing in 41 windows of a condemned brownstone building in Manhattan.

It was the summer of 1960, and photographer Ormond Gigli was working in his studio on 58th Street, across the street from a group of brownstones that were about to be demolished. The windows had been removed and Gigli had an idea of photographing a group of women, one in each of the window openings, wearing formalwear.

The demolition supervisor agreed to let Gigli go ahead – as long as his wife could be in the photograph. Gigli could shoot the next day during the worker’s lunch hour. When the workers returned after lunch, the building would be pulled down.

Gigli and his staff only had 24 hours to plan the photo, find volunteer models to pose for the shot, and get permission from the city. There was a gaping hole in front of the building so they also located a Rolls-Royce to sit on the sidewalk in front.

Word went out to local modeling agencies, and plenty of people volunteered to take part. The sun shone, the weather was lovely, and the photo shoot took an hour. After the photo was taken, the models left, and the building came down.

Today we remember Betty White on what would have been her 100th birthday. A pioneer in the entertainment industry, White was the first woman to produce a sitcom -- the nationally syndicated "Life with Elizabeth" which premiered in 1952 -- and one of the first women to have full creative control in front of and behind the camera. Due to her influence on the industry and her trailblazing nature, she was given the honorary title of "Mayor of Hollywood" in 1955. With a career that has spanned over 80 years, she was recognized by the Guinness World Records as having the longest career of any female entertainer in the world. A lifelong animal advocate, many fans have committed to donating to their local animal shelter or rescue in honor of her 100th birthday.

To share Betty White's incredible story with children, there's a wonderful new picture book "My Little Golden Book About Betty White" for ages 4 to 8 at https://www.amightygirl.com/little-golden-book-betty-white

White was also the author of two inspiring memoirs: "If You Ask Me: (And of Course You Won't)" (http://amzn.to/2DamI0L) and "Here We Go Again: My Life In Television" (http://amzn.to/1BGZmuh)

For adult readers, we also highly recommend the new book "When Women Invented Television" about Betty White and three other women who helped create modern television at https://www.amightygirl.com/when-women-invented-television
