The Coronado Bridge isn’t curved for the reason most people think.

Many people believe it was designed that way to qualify for federal funding.

In reality, the curve was needed so the bridge could gradually rise nearly 200 feet above the bay, allowing Navy aircraft carriers and other massive ships to pass beneath it without creating a dangerously steep roadway.

Sometimes the best engineering also creates the best views—and it’s one of the reasons the Coronado Bridge has become such an unforgettable backdrop for celebrations aboard the Nerissa yacht.
