Beneath the shimmer of a tide pool, the California blue dorid drifts like a living jem—velvet-blue etched with golden runes, as if painted by a patient hand.

This vibrant nudibranch, moves slowly but boldly, a reminder that beauty doesn’t rush. Its colors warn predators: “I am not yours to consume.” In its small, sacred way, it embodies nature’s balance—elegance entwined with resilience.

In the stillness between waves, life whispers in colors we rarely sea.🌊

A flash of fuchsia in the tidepools—
The Hopkins Rose drifts like a dream, a sea sprite wrapped in ruffles of rose and flame.
No bigger than a fingertip, yet it carries the elegance of a ballroom gown.
It’s as if the ocean painted a petal and whispered it to life.

-The Balance-

The sea does not boast when it swells with the tide,
nor bow in defeat as it yields to the moon.
It rises, it falls—
a breath of the earth, a rhythm unbroken,
never less than itself, never more.

And so must we walk—
steady as rivers, sure as the wind,
with fire in our step and the earth in our hands.
For within Gaia, we are tide and horizon,
the whisper and thunder,
Woven of all, humble, focused, and clear.

The fog rolled in like a living sea, hiding all but the faintest trace of the pier. Atop the cliffs, the morning light broke through the palm trees, like a golden crown. Hiking up and looking down, a break in the fog bank revealed a pocket of the vast ocean below. A space between.

A remarkable journey. The morning was clear. 8am high tide. Charlie the Raven greeted us and laughed at my jokes. Base jumpers landing next to us below the Crows Nest. A great time through the slots as always. Afternoon fog rolled in as the tides hit low. Entering Rumrunners was surreal. A halo appearing before the Sea Sewer. Anemones danced, as we navigated our way through Wonderland, on the path to Gaia where the sun sank into the sea. Darkness descended at the hand of nature, and a raccoon friend lead the way out up the rocks.

In twilight’s hush, where shadows play,
A woman sits, in graffiti’s sway,
A concrete wall, with colors bright,
A backdrop for her quiet night.

Her purple beanie, a vibrant hue,
Contrasts with the rocks, both old and new,
The platform above, a circular stage,
Echoes whispers of a bygone age.

The woman’s gaze, a contemplative sea,
Reflects the beauty, wild and free,
In this urban oasis, she finds her peace,
A fleeting moment, the world’s wild release.

Waves of bioluminescence dance and play,
A midnight spectacle, in a moonlit bay.
The ocean’s secrets, in a glowing tide,
A magical world, where peace resides.

The bioluminescence, a wondrous sight,
A glowing trail, in the dark of night.
A reminder of the magic that’s found,
In the ocean’s depths, where secrets abound.

🎶 Save Granger Hall: A Legacy in Need of Harmony 🎶

Granger Music Hall was once the beating heart of San Diego’s musical and cultural life. Built in 1898 by Ralph Granger, a violinist and silver mining success story, the hall was designed by the renowned architect Irving Gill. Granger Hall wasn’t just a place for performances—it was a sanctuary where music resonated so beautifully that no microphones were ever needed. From its Japanese-inspired design to the ceiling murals of Greek gods and cherubs by D. Samman, and even a pipe organ surrounded by hand-carved cedar, every detail told a story.

For over a century, this hall has stood as a monument to creativity, community, and culture. But the grass has grown high—literally and figuratively. Time has let neglect take root, and the building waits in silence, needing careful, loving hands to restore its voice.

Eighteen years ago, a promise was made to move Granger Hall to a new home and restore it to its former glory. But nothing has happened. Now the National City Historical Society is rallying to save this historic treasure before it is lost forever.

Granger Hall’s legacy deserves to sing again. Let’s not let history fade into silence.
