Discover San Diego’s Architectural Heritage with SOHO's Third Sunday Tours.
Every month, SOHO opens the door to history with our Third Sunday Tours—a chance to explore the genius of Irving J. Gill, and that of his colleagues and peers, the world of the Marston family, civic leaders who shaped our city’s cultural and social fabric as well as our cultural landscape history. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, each tour offers a new way to see our historic neighborhoods, gardens, and homes.
With four unique experiences to choose from, it’s easy to make a day of it or come back month after month and collect them all. Bring a friend, bring your camera, and prepare to see San Diego in a whole new light.
*Bankers Hill Walking Tour (10:30am · 90 minutes)
Wander a neighborhood of hidden gems, pedestrian bridges, and sweeping bay views where Gill’s revolutionary Modernism took root.
*Seventh Avenue Walking Tour: A Progressive Vision (12:30pm · 45 minutes)
Step back into the Progressive Era, where George Marston, Gill, and their circle reshaped both architecture and society.
*Marston House Garden Tour (1:30pm · 45 minutes · seasonal March–October)
Lose yourself in two and a half acres of romantic gardens, from early 20th-century designs to the introduction of formal plantings in the late 1920s.
*The Marston House: Architectural Details of Master Architects Hebbard & Gill (2:30pm · 90 minutes)
Immerse yourself in Gill’s early Arts and Crafts masterpiece—where innovation, craftsmanship, and beauty converge.
Tickets are $20 per tour. Advance reservations are recommended, as tours often sell out.
