Pride Season Officially Begins in San Diego

San Diego’s Pride season officially kicked off this week as community leaders, elected officials, advocates, and organizations gathered at City Hall to celebrate the beginning of one of the city’s largest and most anticipated annual events.

The kickoff recognized the contributions of LGBTQ+ organizations, volunteers, and community leaders while reaffirming San Diego’s commitment to equality, visibility, and inclusion. Representatives from across the region joined city officials for a ceremonial proclamation marking the official start of Pride season.

Beyond its cultural significance, San Diego Pride is also a powerful economic engine for the region. Pride generates an estimated $26.6 million in economic impact, supporting local hotels, restaurants, retailers, transportation providers, and small businesses throughout Hillcrest, Balboa Park, and communities across San Diego County. The economic benefits extend well beyond the festival itself as visitor spending creates additional jobs, purchases, and wages that ripple throughout the local economy.

Pride Week officially runs July 11–19, featuring events across San Diego leading up to Pride Weekend. Highlights include the D**e March on Saturday, July 11, Light Up the Cathedral on Wednesday, July 15, the Spirit of Stonewall Rally on Friday, July 17 at The Brass Rail’s Arko Park, the Pride 5K Run & Walk and the San Diego Pride Parade on Saturday, July 18, followed by the two-day Pride Festival in Balboa Park on July 18–19.

San Diego Pride continues to be one of the largest Pride celebrations in the United States, bringing together hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors each year while helping fund year-round LGBTQ+ advocacy, education, and community programs.

San Diego Raises the Pride Flag at City Hall

The City of San Diego officially kicked off Pride Month this week with the raising of the Progress Pride Flag, reaffirming the city’s support for LGBTQ+ residents and visitors as June celebrations begin.

In a social media post marking the start of Pride Month, Mayor Todd Gloria wrote:

“Together, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community’s courage, joy, and contributions to our city. We also recommit to a simple promise: everyone deserves to live openly, safely, and with dignity.”

The flag-raising serves as both a symbol of visibility and a reminder of Pride’s roots in advocacy, equality, and community. Across San Diego, organizations, businesses, schools, and community groups will host events throughout June leading up to San Diego Pride in July.

Mayor Gloria has made LGBTQ+ visibility a recurring part of the city’s Pride Month observances. In 2021, he joined civic and LGBTQ+ leaders to raise the Pride flag at City Hall for the first time in San Diego history, establishing a tradition that continues today.

Looking Ahead to San Diego Pride 2026

San Diego Pride 2026 will take place July 11–19, culminating in Pride Weekend on July 18–19. The annual celebration is one of the largest Pride events in the United States and attracts more than 250,000 participants and supporters.

Major events include:

* San Diego Pride Parade — July 18 in Hillcrest
* Pride 5K Run & Walk — July 18
* San Diego Pride Festival — July 18–19 at Marston Point in Balboa Park

This year’s Pride theme is “Pride Shines On,” emphasizing resilience, visibility, and community at a time when LGBTQ+ rights continue to face challenges nationwide.

As Pride Month begins, the Progress Pride Flag flying over San Diego stands as a reminder that Pride is both a celebration and a commitment to ensuring every person can live openly, safely, and with dignity.

Hillcrest is going through an exciting period of growth and improvement and the Hillcrest Business Association is rolling out a new initiative to keep the neighborhood vibrant and thriving: the Still Fabulous Raffle Program.

With major projects underway—including the Normal Street Promenade, stormwater upgrades, and new development—HBA is encouraging residents and visitors to continue shopping, dining, and exploring Hillcrest. Rather than slowing momentum during construction, the Still Fabulous Raffle embraces this moment of transformation and highlights the resilience, creativity, and community spirit that define the neighborhood.

Customers who visit participating Hillcrest businesses can fill out a raffle card and each month, two winners will be selected and notified directly, with winners also announced on social media via .

To kick things off in a big way, February and March raffle winners will each receive two tickets to Taste of Hillcrest, the beloved self-guided tasting event happening on Saturday, April 11, 2026. In the months ahead, prizes will rotate and feature exclusive offerings from Hillcrest businesses, giving locals even more reasons to support their favorite spots—and discover new ones.

The Still Fabulous campaign also includes signage, sidewalk decals, and social media efforts to promote that Hillcrest is open for business during our make-over.

IMAGES OF PRIDE: Joyful Acts of Resistance - our annual photography exhibition celebrating resilience, joy, and community.

This exhibition explores how joy itself can be an act of defiance against oppression, hardship, or conformity. The photographs capture moments where laughter, dance, color, ritual, and everyday tenderness become tools of resistance.

Instead of focusing on the heaviness of struggle, the show celebrates resilience through celebration, showing how communities transform-resistance into a vibrant affirmation of life.

This year they welcome Keleah Lanea and Liliana Hueso Photography to curate and judge the show.
