Our Los Portales Museum team had the opportunity to attend the Texas Oral History Association Conference & Workshop! 🎙️📚

We learned new approaches to oral history, storytelling, and preserving the voices and experiences of our communities. We’re excited to bring these new ideas back to San Elizario and continue strengthening the way we collect, share, and preserve local history.

Get ready for a morning of movement and local history!

The Mat Society—a group of certified Pilates and Barre instructors from Texas Pledge—is teaming up with Los Portales Museum to host a free community Pilates class in the museum garden.

When: Saturday, October 3 from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Where: Los Portales Museum, 1521 San Elizario Rd, San Elizario, TX 79849

What to bring: Your yoga/Pilates mat and water

Who: Everyone! All levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced.

Once we wrap up our practice at 12:00 PM, stay for a special live reenactment out front titled "Adios San Elizario." Experience the local history come to life as it portrays the aftermath of Billy the Kid and his friend escaping from the old county jail.

It’s completely free, family-friendly, and a fantastic way to support local culture and wellness. Hit going, share with friends, and we will see you on the mat!

Encuentro Binacional de Museos y Centros Culturales

Our Museum Director, Andrea Figueroa, and one of our docents had the opportunity to attend the Binational Gathering of Museums and Cultural Centers in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.

We learned, connected, and shared ideas with cultural professionals from both sides of the border. We also visited the MIJ Museo de las Identidades Juarenses and explored the work of Mago Gándara and her Casa Estudio Cui. Aquí Cui: Escuela libre de arte y permacultura

Grateful for these opportunities to learn, connect, and strengthen our cultural community across the border! 🤝✨
