M. That experience gave me a keen interest in rehabilitative therapies at a young age." At 20 years old, Ryan began a yearlong apprenticeship with Doctor of Chiropractic medicine, Khorosh Shakiri. "At that time you o
nly needed a 100 hour course to practice massage in Oakland, so a years worth of study was more than enough to be licensed." In 2004 Ryan successfully completed a 750-hour massage therapy certification course at the National Holistic Institute, to become a Nationally Board Certified Massage Therapist. NHI is known as one of the toughest massage therapy schools in California, with a strong emphasis on Medical Massage. That same year he pursued a 650-hour course with the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association to become a Certified Yoga Instructor. "Showing my clients individualized exercises and stretches that they can do on their own empowers them to take the healing process into their own hands." Since becoming certified as a massage therapist and yoga instructor Ryan has completed over 1,500 hours of continuing education while working on a Bachelors of Science Degree in Integrative Health. At the same time Ryan is working on all requirements to be accepted into a School of Medicine. "In my journey to become an allopathic doctor, I have spent countless hours studying holistic medicine." Ryan became a Registered Massage Therapy Instructor in 2007 and began teaching at Pima Medical Institute, Northern New Mexico College, as well as independently. He is well versed in all styles of massage and has taught years of courses on the following subjects: Anatomy and Physiology, Condition Specific Massage, Elderly Care, Kinesiology, Lymphatic Drainage, MyoFascial Release, Pregnancy Massage, Shiatsu and Acupressure, Spa Treatments, Sports Massage, and Swedish massage. "I love teaching massage therapy because I can make sure that the next generation of massage therapists will be trained in working on common injuries. In the pain management setting I find Shiatsu and MyoFascial Release to be the most beneficial, however I am able to customize treatment for massage in any modality that I teach to suit a client’s preferences and health needs."
