Finally, another posting about Ed Rev. The evening before the Ball Park event was a reception. One of the guests was Todd Rose, a dyslexic who, iike Gavin Newsom, found his way after much struggle. Through persistence in his twenties he ended up at Harvard and now is a leader in rethinking education. Here is a recent Ted Talk which might interest you.

This weekend was Parents Education Network's EdRev at the Giants Ball Park. This ritual started seven years ago and is a celebration of dyslexia and learning differences. 2,000 people show up. This year the featured speaker was Gavin Newsom, a dyslexic, former Mayor of San Francisco and now Lieutenant Governor of California. He is a terrific speaker and a great advocate for speaking up about what is. As his audience was filled with school age dyslexics and learning challenged students, and as he, Newsom had struggled so hard with school, he knew the challenges they are facing. And, he re-iterated s that those struggles are in part why he, today, is successful. He learned that he had to find out what he was passionate about. He went into different jobs that were hopeless for him. Then he decided to work in a wine ship and from there he discovered entrepreneurship is what drives him. His stories are riveting and the youngsters in the crowd listened. I occasionally write blogs for PEN. I am glad I am doing it this time. It's a great way for me to digest his ideas.

One aspect of my learning challenges is hyperlexia. Simply put it means that imaging words either written or vocal can be very challenging. I have used many different healing tools to get on top of this. One of them is Verbalizing and Visualizing offered by Lindamood-Bell.

Today a friend shared this link. I explore fonts that make reading easier for dyslexics. Years ago, when I published my book, The Other Side of Dyslexia, on my experience of being dyslexia I asked four other dyslexics to help me pick the font. Our choice seemed work for other readers. Take a look at this discussion.

Ten years ago when I published my book, The Other Side of Dyslexia, a personal story on what it feels like to be dyslexic, I asked dyslexics to help me choose the font for the book. Now, there is a study that has been recently completed that might interest you.

A team of researchers in Spain has recently published the results of a study to determine which fonts were easiest for dyslexic individuals to read. Based on the evaluation of 48 dyslexic subjects ages 11-50, reading 12 texts with 12 different fonts, they determined that reading performance was bes...

Today I audited a class by Svetlana Masgutova who eight years ago helped me balance my 27 reflexes that were off - and had been off since I was three years of age. (eg, I couldn't crawl) Undeveloped reflexes were part of the reason for my dyslexia/hyperlexia. This woman is brilliant and so creative. It you have a child or if you are an adult with a learning challenge, consider finding a specialist who uses the Masgutova work. A great calmness results from balanced reflexes. Here's the link: http://masgutovamethod.com/ It is also know as MNRI.
