Leap into the weekend with some fascinating trivia! Did you know the leap year originated after Julius Caesar's "Year of Confusion" in 46 B.C.? In an attempt to synchronize the calendar with the winter solstice, he created a 445-day year, followed by a 365.25-day year—still a tiny bit longer than the actual solar year. To address this discrepancy, he introduced the leap year concept, with one leap day every fourth year.

Acquired by Texas State University in 1994, the area has transformed into an educational center and ecological preserve. The dam has seen many modifications over its 175-year lifespan, and it continues to play a crucial ecological role, providing habitat for eight endangered species in the diverse San Marcos River ecosystem.
