Thank you, Joe! 

With the close of one vintage, begins anew.
Though we still have 40+ tons of reds to press off to fully conclude the 2024 vintage, we start working on the vines in preparation for 2025.

Wednesday was the first day of pruning. No spurs will be cut or canes formed for quite some time though. This is a base pass whereby we perform trunk/shoot selection. We do not sucker our vines throughout the summer to allow ample options to renew old or damaged wood. We do this ahead of hilling-up to allow a better line of sight to the graft union and to remove any excess stubble that would otherwise be cumbersome to work around in the spring, come soil removal.

By the end of this task, each vine will be left with at least two points coming from the graft union.
New shoot, new shoot.
New shoot, old trunk.
Or old trunk, old trunk.

However, we are converting even more acreage over to our unique quad system that leaves four points at the graft.
