Another idea for a chilly day …
The manatees like to huddle together at Manatee Park and visit here when the Gulf water is on the cooler side. It’s a fun and interesting visit for all ages.

There is a short walking path along the waterway that you can explore as well. During our visit, most of the manatees were hanging out in the main area behind the visitors’ center/bathroom building. Park in the lot and pay at the kiosk. It’s just a few dollars and if you’re just visiting and not doing a kayak or guided tour, you can def be in and out in an hour.

This is one of the best times of the year to visit. The rare cold weather we had on our trip in early January gave us the opportunity to explore without sweating 🙃

This week in addition to spending time at the beach and the heated pool, we stopped by—
- Sanibel Farmers Market
- Manatee Park in Ft. Myers
- Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife
(CROW) - Visitor Education Center
- Pond Apple Trail - an easy walk/hike where we saw a small gator, a black racer snake, turtles, several species of birds including a dinner feeding high up in the eagles’ nest, the most amazing bee hive high up in a tree, and even a family of raccoons.

I’ll share more about these places in the coming days.

Every day brought something new.
Starting our week out -
Sunday, we visited the outdoor Sanibel Island Farmers Market for the first time. We were amazed at how many unique food, art, and craft vendors attended. This trip we sampled — and came back to our condo with bags of — baguettes, salmon dip, cran-chicken salad, homemade guacamole, vegan treats, sausages (yes, sausages 😂), and an assortment of new clothes.

It is open from 9-1pm on Sundays Oct-May next to City Hall on 800 Dunlop Road.

The sunrises are just as spectacular as the sunsets. If you wake up and head out on the beach about 20 minutes before the official sunrise, you’re sure to catch something beautiful. Both of these shots were taken yesterday morning.
