There is a pivotal MPA vote happening in October and the deadline for written comments is tomorrow, September 30 at 5:00 p.m.

Send the Fish & Game Commission a respectful, personal comment supporting CDFW’s science-based recommendations to deny MPA petitions that would unnecessarily restrict fishing access.

The petitions of most concern for our area are:
Petition to ELIMINATE all fishing off of Carpinteria Petition 2023-29MPA Carpinteria.
Petition to EXPAND multiple MPA’s Point Conception aka San Augustine/The Ranch; South Point and Gull Island. Petition 2023-33MPA.
Focus on the petition or place you know best, share your firsthand experience, and make a clear request: support CDFW’s recommendations and science-based management of our fisheries.

If these petitions were approved it would eliminate our local 1/2 day & bass fishing grounds off Carpinteria. This is where many people experience their first fishing trip, where many kayak fish, free dive for lobster, and more. There are multiple types of habitat for recreational anglers to fish making it the most accessible fishing area with the least effort for ALL anglers, private boaters, skiffs, kayaks, float tubes, free divers, SUP fishermen and Charter boats. Please help us maintain this important ocean access for all!
