For allowing us to use their beautiful work! As we work through making the book, there will be more names to add, including of course the competition winners who will be announced on 25th April, but we think we've given you a flavour of just how stunning this book is going to be and what a fantastic line up of photographers we have assembled. Our aim, as always, is to create the most beautiful book ever seen on the species.
Don't forget to set your alarms for the Kickstarter campaign going live in just 48 hours now, this Friday at 9am UK time (link to sign up for an alert in comments below) and watch out for more announcements between now and then about more of the tempting rewards we have lined up for that! We cannot wait, with your support, to make this 9th book in the Remembering Wildlife series and to start to raise funds to help protect these magnificent animals! 🙏🐅

Some adventures are bigger and more adventurous than others. Our Wild Focus Expeditions' Antarctic trip last November was one of these. We had MASSIVE and unusual weather systems and storms that attempted to thwart our plans at every turn, but did not manage to do so. According to the captain of our ship, the winds were literally off the Beaufort Wind Force Scale"... not once, twice, three times but FOUR executive storms in a row.
Our adventurous group weathered these storms....

We at Wild Focus and all of our wild friends wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and joy-filled New Year! Cheers!

I would like to invite you to join us on our Antarctica Expedition in October/November 2022. Come and see penguins, penguins and more penguins - colonies of over 100,000 on South Georgia with dramatic mountains as a backdrop (also elephant seals, leopard seals and more). Experience the magic of the most dense wildlife populations on earth or a single Adelie penguin jumping into the ocean from a blue iceberg. Our custom created itinerary is taking us during the best time of year to the best wildlife places on the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. THIS is a trip of a lifetime!
The motion-blur image of a king penguin was taken by my husband Theo Allofs in South Georgia. It was the cover image of the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Portfolio Book #14.

The hippo is one of the most ferocious animals in all of Africa but she is also one of the best parents. A newborn hippo can weigh between 50 - 120 lbs (22.5 - 54 kgs).
Hippo mothers nurse and care for their young for 18 long months. The hippo female and the bull become highly aggressive when any animals come into contact with the calf. The male occupies the perimeter banks of the herd's territorial waters to keep a watchful eye out for any threats, while the female provides protection from within the hippo pool itself.
I must say that this little calf looks quite relaxed despite the battle erupting behind him!

This is a coalition of four big male cheetahs (the Nne Bora - formerly the Tano Bora) taking down a wildebeest in a rain storm a few weeks ago.

These boys hunted (and failed) all day until the late afternoon. Watching their strategy and techniques never cease to amaze me. Making a kill (for food) by any animal is difficult and not without risk. Many times, the predator suffers serious injuries.

The circle of life must continue and every animal must eat for survival. All though difficult to witness, predators and all keystone species are necessary in order to control populations. This was by far the most incredible hunt that I have ever witnessed!

Visiting the dunes around the Sossusvlei was pure pleasure without the hordes of tourists that used to trample on the dunes pre-covid. I have never seen this region with so few people since my first visit in 1995.
I am sure the situation won't change much for another year. So now is the time to visit Namibia. Wild Focus Expeditions is offering a safari to Namibia next year in May. For details please visit

Desert-dwelling elephants in Namibia's Skeleton Coast can survive without drinking water for several days. They survive by eating moisture-laden vegetation that grows in riverbeds. They do not have vast supplies of food sources like their savannah cousins.
Desert elephants must travel long distances to reach a water source. They have adapted by developing a pharyngeal pouch that is located within their throat at the base of their tongue giving them an emergency source for water storage.
The pharyngeal pouch is also responsible for the rumbling sound made by elephants -the best sound ever!!!!
