Still a few days of the season yet. The boat basin remains open and the river is still running. This picture is from us scouting 2 days ago. The backwaters are pretty iced over and there has been ice on the main lake. You can get to most of the major points. Are the birds here? Honestly, that seems to change day by day. We saw a ton of mallards the other day, but never pulled the trigger yesterday. Only heard 6-8 volleys Lots and lots of geese in the area though. So, maybe change up your hunt agenda.
Also, we've had lots of messages about guiding. As flattering as it is that someone would want to hunt with us, we don't guide. We're just a family and like minded waterfowling friends that run an AirBnb/VRBO less than a mile from the Santee boat basin. We believe in good sportmanship and recognize the river can be intimidating and dangerous at times. No harm in making sure we all get the most out of our experiences and come home safely.
Also, we want you to come stay with us! We definitely share more information and tips for the area with our guests.
Check us out and keep us in mind for your next trip up to Santee. Plenty of good hunting still to go with ducks, geese, pheasants, prarie chicken, turkey and grouse in the area. Then, well be setting up for ice fishing and the search for walleyes, perch, and crappie.
Lots of things to do year around on the river.
Our river cabin sleeps 11, of course accomodates dogs, plenty of parking, full kitchen, smart tv, wifi and youtubetv access. Plus, you become friends with our hunting community. Check us out and bookmark us for your next trip up here.
