Troutdoors Fly Fishing

Troutdoors Fly Fishing Hi I'm Matt aka "Worm" a fishing guide in the Adirondacks NY since 2015. Specializing in Fly and Spin Hi, my name is Matt, friends call me "Worm".

I have been fishing since I could walk and hold a fishing pole. I started by spin fishing local bass ponds in my native waters of Northeastern MA. I started fly fishing in 2006, and fished many trout streams all throughout the New England area, including eastern and northern New York. I first came to the Adirondacks through a family vacation and was astonished by the beauty of the forest and strea

ms and told myself this where I wanted to live. I was given the opportunity to live in the Dacks’ in 2012 through attending Paul Smith's College to study Parks, Recreation and Facilities Management. I minored in biology so that I could study ichthyology and entomology. I met Vince owner of Wiley's Flies my freshman year, and since then always went to his shop for my fly tying and fishing supplies. I graduated in 2016 and stayed in the Dacks’ to continue pursuing my enjoyment of guiding. Many times I’ve been asked what my favorite fish species is to target. Honestly I like them all, from bluegill sunfish on light tackle, bluelining for brookies, hunting pike in the weeds, bass on topwater lures to chasing the landlocked salmon run, and occasionally stripers on the cape cod. If it has gills and fins, it’s catchable on the fly.

Every emotion was felt from when this fish was landed, held, and released. I was happy, I was sad, I was stressed and I was relieved. It meant more to me than anyone could have ever imagined. A dear friend of mine and others passed away unexpectedly four years ago. Joe was an avid angler for salmon and steelhead in NY. He tried to get me to go with him, but I had to refuse each time. I was either never around, busy, or was working. When I finally agreed to come up after speaking to him for the last time, I instead attended his funeral the following week. So, let alone was this my first steelhead ever, it also has a deep meaning behind it. Myself and a group of shared friends now honor him by having an annual fishing trip the first weekend of November around his birthday. This time was a successful trip to say the least. My few pictures don’t do it justice. I look forward to next year to keep slaying fish in his name. .arnold1992 .west.psc

The last of my August trip photos, season seems to be coming to and end quickly, but at least I get a little more time out on the water for myself.

Couple of different floats from Mid August, a bit of variety is always a nice change of pace.

Fish this Brookie stream a few times, nice to know it’s still a balance in size class few small 4-6in and 8-10in. A healthy population as well, only have the 10 photos but I missed and lost double that in a couple hour session. One of many Adirondacks hidden gems.
