Sea Turtle information 😎

August is peak sea turtle hatchling season in Sarasota County. If you are visiting our beaches and see baby turtles, please remember: Hatchlings heading towards the ocean should be left alone. If a hatchling is injured, not on the beach, or headed away from the ocean, please do NOT immediately return it to the water- chances are, it has been up all night trying to find its way to the ocean and has lost most of its energy.

If you find a stranded hatchling, call Mote Marine Lab’s Sea Turtle Program: (941) 388-4331. (No one is on call from 4 p.m.-4 a.m., but instructions for hatchling care and drop-off are included in the voicemail). Mote’s staff will be able to give the hatchling the care that it needs and time to regain its strength to be released back into the wild.

The next generation of sea turtles appreciate your respect of their space and the dedication to their wellbeing!
