In 1926, when Sarasota had fewer than 3,000 residents, one woman saw what we could become. Marcia Rader, Art Supervisor of Sarasota Schools, founded the Sarasota Art Association—now Art Center Sarasota —as the city’s very FIRST arts organization!

Even before the famous Ringling Museum opened its doors, Marcia was creating a space where local artists could gather, exhibit, and dream. Her vision became the foundation for Sarasota’s reputation as Florida’s Cultural Coast.
