Tea doesn’t start in a tea shop. It starts with people. 🌿

One of the things I shared on The Produce Moms Podcast is how important it is to remember that the farmers behind our tea are real people, with families, communities, and generations of knowledge behind what they grow.

When I talk about sourcing from small farms around the world, it’s not just about finding an incredible tea. It’s about knowing where it came from, learning the story behind it, and giving these lesser-known tea regions a place at the table.

From Kenya and Tanzania to Malawi, Nepal, Colombia, and Peru, every tea has a place. And every place has people behind it.

🔥 Tea Tales Tuesday: The Accidental Smoked Tea

What happens when a disrupted tea harvest, a little desperation, and a pinewood fire come together?

According to legend, you get one of the most recognizable teas in the world: Lapsang Souchong.

Centuries later and thousands of miles away, tea makers in Malawi are putting their own spin on the tradition, smoking locally grown black tea over guava wood instead of pine.

The result? Our Smoky Highland. Deep, smoky and completely unlike your everyday black tea.

I loved talking with The Produce Moms about how much more there is to tea than simply brewing a cup, from origin and terroir to tasting notes, aroma, and the experience of slowing down enough to actually taste what’s in your glass.
