Longboat Key’s first green sea turtle nest of the season has been spotted! 🐢

Longboat Key Turtle Watch reported the nest last week. The same team also documented the island’s first loggerhead nest on April 30. Green turtle nests are much less common than loggerhead nests, making this an exciting discovery for the season.

Last year was a record-breaking year, with 1,473 sea turtle nests recorded on Longboat Key, including 351 green turtle nests. As of May 30, Longboat Key had already recorded 154 loggerhead and green turtle nests this season.

Please respect marked nesting areas and help keep our beaches safe for nesting sea turtles. 💚🌊
