The Strange Story Behind the Spirit of Life Statue

The model for the Spirit of Life Statue in Congress Park was Audrey Munson. She was living in New York City with her mother and the man who owned the apartment house they lived in fell in love with Audrey. However there were a few problems. One is she had no interest in him, secondly he was much older that she was and third he was married. But, true story, he killed his wife so that he could marry Audrey. Well, that didn’t work out very well for him and he died in the electric chair in Sing Sing Prison about a year later. But after that, Audrey’s mother had her committed to an asylum where she died at age 104.
